Nations Within among Refugees/Immigrants Field Practitioner
Spend 6 weeks of your summer learning to make disciples among the unreached ethnic minority people groups of the greater-Detroit area. Opportunities include placement at either a non-profit community organization or for-profit employment agency among communities of refugees, immigrants, and the economically impoverished. Develop relationships with new Americans through serving their needs while engaging in cross- cultural relationships. Hone your skills as you learn from practitioners who practice and teach principles of community-based outreach and discipleship. Internships swill split time evenly between your organizational placement along with Navigator training and cross-cultural ministry.
Orientation and training include (but are not limited to): An understanding and approach to poverty; proficiency in cross-cultural ministry; peacemaking; and storytelling.
Interns will serve alongside laborers pioneering a work that integrates discipleship and community outreach within individual households.
Responsibilities also include working well as part of a team, managing a budget, and flexibility related to the combination of relational and task-oriented opportunities necessary as you serve and minister.

Qualifications
Must be a high school graduate with proficiency in English. The local team values ongoing spiritual formation in its members and short-term practitioners.
A degree in community development, horticulture or agriculture, human resources, social entrepreneurship, sales/marketing, education, data analysis, youth ministry, or intercultural studies would be beneficial but are not required. Additionally, those who value community-oriented work, creation care and stewardship, the outdoors, justice, and/or poverty alleviation may find these internship to be a good fit.

day-to-day Expectations
All roles will develop a holistic worldview in disciple making along with a value of God’s love for people pushed to the margins and facing vulnerabilities. This learning will take place through online group coaching with fellow cross-cultural interns as well as mentorship from the local team. Participants will begin applying this knowledge and attitude in the context of local partnership as directed by the local Navigator city team’s strategic plan.
The roles at the non-profit community organization will include one of two functions:
- Female intern performing customer service and daily operational tasks.
- Male or female interns would work with youth program on an urban, organic farm. Under the supervision of the director, this would include potentially leading a curriculum with local youth, as well as performing routine maintenance and general community engagement.
The role at the for-profit start up human resources organization requires one intern whose duties would include recruiting clients from the community, visiting business clients and workplaces, and administration. This intern will join the other interns for ministry related and other social activities.
